Creating Musical Fusion...in my dorm room

(If anyone gets the reference in the title, you will get cyber-hugs.)

So...here's why I'm super, SUPER happy today:

1. I got a shit-ton of new music yesterday, including the new RJA album, three EPIC MJ songs ("Smooth Criminal," "They Don't Care About Us," and "Man in the Mirror," for anyone who's curious), Fort Minor, the Offspring, and a whole new album by Secondhand Serenade. If you can guess how much time last night was spent on music vs. homework...well, I hope you're not my mom, or I'm in trouble. ;)

2. I learned how to do my makeup like Bill Kaulitz using this handy tutorial:

Dude, it WORKS. I've gotten so many compliments on my makeup today, when usually it's either a) I've really screwed it up, or b) you can't tell I'm wearing any. And it's idiot-proof! Seriously, anyone who has gray and brown eyeshadow can do this look.

3. I have a new DP and new stillsperson for my thesis, and I know that both of them are more than competent, they are absolutely AMAZING.

4. Scriptlock is tomorrow and I actually have a snowball's chance in hell of finishing my script on time.

5. I have a new best friend, listed as my brother on FaceBook, and he is epic with added bits of epicness.

6. In accordance with #5...my new bestie and I are planning a dance! We're debating whether we should call it the "Middle School Dance" (named after a style of dancing we were doing at Sunday night's "rave" in place of the usual bump-and-grind shit), but we don't know if that'll work. More updates on that later. BUT we are planning on playing all the music that gets ignored in place of rap: Katy Perry, Weezer, Good Charlotte, Avril Lavigne, Yellowcard, OK Go, and P!nk. Yes, it's cheesy radio stuff, but it's a switch and that's what counts. In the words of Jim Gaffigan, WE NEED VARIETY!

7. The RJA album that I bought from iTunes is heavily infused with Underoath-like tints of screamo, which makes me so happy it's almost ridiculous.

8. I have a MASSIVE Michael Jackson poster in my dorm room now, courtesy of FYE (this is also where I bought the Secondhand Serenade album, used, for $6).

9. I actually did laundry today. YES!!!!

10. There were brownies in the cafeteria at lunchtime today...WITH CHOCOLATE FROSTING. Is this heaven? I think so!

But the very best part of this weekend/beginning of this week? I got an e-mail from an Emerson college graduate who has been giving me tips on applying--and he thinks I have a good chance of getting in. Even if I bomb my SAT math. Even if I have nothing but Bs for this year and last year. Even if I don't have as much community service as my roommate. Even if I don't speak a foreign language fluently. He thinks I can get in the way I am, without killing myself to get a "perfect" application. There is only one way to describe the noise I made when I read this email: Eep! That is the only applicable description.

Only bad thing about this weekend/week beginning: I missed ski training this morning because I was sick last night. Bottom line? I am never, ever getting dinner at the Melody Freeze again.

And on that note, I go off to MPA block with a smile and the knowledge that, if nothing else, I posted SOMETHING today.

:)
