Happy new year, loves...so I just realized what happened with my SUPPOSED-TO-BE-AT-MIDNIGHT New Year's Eve post...Apparently, Blogger posts the thing when you START writing it, not when you END writing it...so my post was up at 9:04 PM instead of 12:00 AM...who knew?
Anyway. So I don't know about you, but my new year celebrations involved Inception (we were literally watching it JUST as midnight hit), a late-night Meijer run, soy sauce, random IM sessions, fastweb spam, screenwriting, fairy tales, and the Chronicles of Narnia. (Please don't hold that against me.)
Speaking of which, I'm wondering when The Chronicles of Narnia turned into Twilight? It used to be, "Oh, you like Narnia, you're all right" and "Oh my God, you like TWILIGHT?!" Now it's all, "Oh God, you like Narnia...you're so pathetic" and "Oh God, you like Twilight...you're so pathetic." Can someone explain this to me? Narnia is childish, I will confess to that...but it's a childhood classic, there's no shame in loving that just like there's no shame in lovingCharlie and the Chocolate Factory. Okay, maybe that's just me. But I really don't think there's shame in childishness when it comes to literature or films...come on, admit it, we all still indulge in Winnie the Pooh when we need some comfort.
So this will be another massive Quote!Post (kind of like a sequel to this one), because I recently had to find a quote for my senior portrait in the yearbook. I settled on one of my favorites:
"There is an innocence in admiration; it is found in those to whom it has never yet occurred that they, too, might be admired someday."--Friedrich Nietzsche
I love that quote because it's so TRUE. I think this is one of the reasons people think I'm more naïve than I actually am, because I'm always so surprised when someone likes something I do. To me, every accomplishment, no matter how small, is a victory. Every compliment should be taken to heart. Every time someone chooses you to do something, every time someone singles you out in a positive way, you should be grateful. That's my outlook. (If you're reading this, MPAs, take this as an explanation of why crew roles matter so much to me.) So the concept that, years from now, someone will admire me the way I admire Ronnie Winter or Catherine Hardwicke is almost unthinkable to me...at least for now.
So anyway, this was my senior quote. But in the process of searching for quotes, I found quite a few "runners-up," and some that I just filed away because they were so damn cool. Some were rejected for being too silly; most were rejected for being too serious. They all mean something to me, so I want to share them with you. Take what meaning from them you can--but don't look at this and think, "Good God, she's gone Emo on us!" No. I have not. Nor have I gone hipster, thankyouverymuch. It's just that I'm in a different place now than I was when I did my last Quote!post. So, yes, these are a little "darker" and more serious than the last batch...but don't hold it against me, please. I've had a bit too much of that lately.
"When these broken hands are whole again
We'll find what we've been waiting for
We were made for so much more"
from "There's A Place for Us" by Carrie Underwood
"I'm always amazed - movies that they fight tooth and nail and are always the weirdest, those are the ones that end up making them all the money. All they have to do is look at their fucking slate of movies! The proof is there. So why not, if something is going to be flawed, why not have it be interestingly flawed, as opposed to boringly flawed?"--Tim Burton
"Shaking from the pain that's in my head
I just want to crawl into my bed
And throw away the life I've led
But I won't let it die, I won't let it die!"

Can you feel it now?
These walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down"

"The only rules that really matter are these: What a man can do, and what a man can't do."--Jack Sparrow
Will: This is either madness...or brilliance.
Jack: It's remarkable how often those two traits coincide.

"Today I screwed up again I wasn't paying attention
I walked into a wall again
I heard you laugh and saw you grin
While you were sitting at your t-shirt stand with all your cool friends
They're really cool, I get the point!
I heard you, I heard you
I heard you say 'Not a chance what don't you see?'
I heard you, I heard you
I heard you say 'You're not good enough for me'"
from "I Heard You" by Good Charlotte

I live for the words you'll finally say
I live for the day"

"You're going to catch a cold from the ice inside your soul."--Christina Perri

You can take your time
And I will be here waiting
He's waiting by my side
God is never far behind"

But I know the course."

"Do you know--well of course you do
What it's like to stand outside
To watch the world and wish you didn't hurt so much you cried
I know I'm not the only one
And I know I shouldn't care
But when I feel these things are real
I wish I felt you there
And if I did I'd ask you 'How come life is so unfair?'"
from Bare

Well if that's love, it comes at much too high a cost"

Nor set down aught in malice: then, must you speak
Of one that lov'd not wisely but too well."
